Youth Summer Mission Trips

We have 2 great mission trips planned for the summer of 2012 for all students currently in 9th-12th grades!

1-We will be heading to Mingo County, WV with Youthworks.  The breathtaking Appalachian Mountains, extending from Georgia to Maine, are scattered with many rural towns, including Delbarton, Gilbert, Kermit, Matewan and Williamson.  Mingo County, one of the richest coal areas of West Virginia, has a population of approximately 26,755 residents.  Because 72% of the land and 80% of the mineral rights in the 80 counties that make up this area are absentee-owned, these resources provide little income for Mingo County.  30% of the total population lives below the poverty line, including nearly 39% of all residents under age 18.  Because of flooding issues, many homes are in need of repair.

2-We will be partnering with Bethlehem Lutheran Church who serves the Midway community of St. Paul.  We will be sharing Christ’s love by hosting Vacation Bible School for kids in that neighborhood (leading Bible lessons, music, games, and crafts); by hosting a block party for the neighborhood which gives away tons of clothes, furniture, household items, etc, that St. Luke collects; serving meals; and by learning about and serving the people who live in the Midway.
